Biofuel is a fuel/carrier for internal combustion engines and fuel cells made from biomass. It can be gaseous, liquid or solid (biodiesel, bioethanol, methane, wood chips, etc.). The feedstocks for biofuels are renewable resources, such as oil plants like canola or oil palm; grains like wheat or corn; or high carbohydrate plants like sugarcane.
The entire process of biofuel production is demonstrated in educational experiments using this student experiment kit. The case contains all the necessary parts and components.
The first step is resource selection and fermentation. Then the obtained wort is distilled with a special condenser, and the ethanol is processed. Finally, the biofuel produced must be converted into useful energy, such as electricity, using the ethanol fuel cell provided.
The topics of the experiments cover not only bioethanol production, but also the production of biodiesel by transesterification of fats.
