The experimental setup allows you to determine the coefficient of thermal expansion of materials. Brass, copper and aluminum tubes are included with the unit.
The coefficient of thermal expansion of a material can be determined by observing the expansion of the tube along its length as water vapor passes through it. In this instrument, tube elongation is measured with an analog displacement indicator accurate to 0.01 mm, and temperature is measured with a 100 kOhm thermistor, which is installed in the insulating foam that wraps the middle part of the tubes. The resistance value of the thermistor is then measured with a digital multimeter, and the measured temperature value can be converted into temperature values using a conversion table.
