A vibration generator can be used to show some properties of wave motion, especially transverse waves, although it can also be used to show a longitudinal wave. The most important properties of waves, leading to the concept of fundamental frequency and its harmonics, can be demonstrated by generating standing waves in a stretched string (cord).
The vibration generator can also be used to study the vibrations of a steel strip or spring. In the course of experiments, the relationship between tension, length, and frequency of basic oscillations is investigated.
Characteristics:
The vibration generator consists of a rod that is driven by a system similar to that used in the creation of vibration by a moving loudspeaker coil, that is, the permanent magnet oscillates under the action of an alternating current passing through the coil to which the membranes are connected. The vibration frequency is the same as the frequency of alternating current.
